Description

San Leandro’s gigabit community efforts are led by Lit San Leandro, a public-private partnership conceived by Dr. J. Patrick Kennedy. Dr. Kennedy is a long-time San Leandro resident and CEO and founder of OSIsoft, one of the City’s largest employers. This partnership offers an opportunity to revolutionize San Leandro’s telecommunications infrastructure, positioning the City to be a major player in the high-tech and clean-tech economies. Additionally, it helps to provide the foundation necessary to attract a new generation of companies to San Leandro, specifically software, technology, and green-tech companies that may have a manufacturing component. On March 2, 2012, Lit San Leandro went live, with the first piece of fiber being activated, connecting its first building to the fiber optic network.

Lit San Leandro and San Leandro Dark Fiber LLC comprise the private side of the partnership that work with the City of San Leandro to create the Fiber Loop. San Leandro Dark Fiber owns the fiber optic cable that runs through the City’s underground conduit. Lit San Leandro owns and operates the switch and routing facilities that bring lightning-fast Internet service to our community.
Jim Morrison is the CEO of Lit San Leandro. Debbie Acosta is Chief Innovation Officer for Lit San Leandro and has been the primary US Ignite contact for implementing applications in San Leandro.
